Our Principles & Practices

Last Updated: September 2025

Our Guiding Principles

At Aram Tamil Palli, we strive to create a safe and joyful learning environment rooted in respect and shared responsibility.

We are guided by two core principles:

  • நாம் ஓர் பெரிய குடும்பம் (We are one big family) – Inclusivity
  • இது நம்முடைய பள்ளி (It’s our school) – Responsibility, accountability, and ownership

These values remind us that our school belongs to all of us, and together we nurture a community where children learn Tamil with pride.

Class Operations

Class Timings & Entry

  • Classes are held on scheduled Fridays from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
  • The school building opens at 5:45 PM for Aram Tamil Palli.
  • For safety reasons, all students and parents must use the main/front entrance. Side or back entrances should not be used.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

  • Students must be dropped off and picked up directly from their classroom.
  • No pick-up or drop-off is permitted in the parking lot or outside the school building.
  • Parents should supervise children until the teacher arrives.
  • Students must be picked up within 5 minutes of dismissal. The building will be locked at 7:40 PM.

Student Responsibilities

Student Materials & Conduct

  • Bring textbook, exercise book, two pencils, and an eraser.
  • No phones or gadgets are allowed during class. Devices must remain switched off.
  • Snacks may only be had during the designated break time.
  • Use the restroom before class begins.
  • Respect school property—exploring, disturbing, or damaging classroom items is strictly prohibited.

Tardy Policy

  • Students are expected to be seated and ready by 6:00 PM sharp.
  • Arriving more than 5 minutes late will be marked as tardy.
  • Arriving more than 10 minutes late may result in loss of participation credit.
  • Frequent tardiness disrupts learning and may be addressed with parents.

Attendance & Communication

  • Parents must check Canvas regularly for notes, assignments, and teacher communication.
  • Class delays, cancellations, or early dismissals will be shared via Canvas, email, or WhatsApp.
  • Absences should be reported in the class Canvas group before class begins.
  • More than two consecutive absences require prior teacher approval.
  • Parents are responsible for ensuring missed work is completed. Teachers will not re-teach missed lessons in class.

Parent Responsibilities

Homework & Learning Support

  • Parents are encouraged to spend 15–30 minutes daily reviewing lessons and practicing Tamil at home.
  • Homework must be reviewed and signed weekly by parents.
  • Canvas, our Learning Management System (LMS), connects teachers, parents, and students. Please check Canvas regularly to stay updated.

Parent Involvement & Volunteering

Aram Tamil Palli depends on the support of our dedicated parent volunteers. To ensure a safe and supportive environment, parents are expected to volunteer on a rotational basis by:

  • Monitoring hallways and safeguarding entrances.
  • Assisting with classroom needs when scheduled.
  • Helping students follow school guidelines in a respectful manner.
  • Reporting concerns promptly to the school coordinator or administration.
  • Respecting teachers and administrators (all volunteers) by responding promptly to communications and attending scheduled meetings.

Behavior & Safety

  • Students are expected to behave respectfully, as they would in their regular school.
  • Running or playing in hallways is not allowed.
  • Students are encouraged to speak only Tamil while at school.
  • Safety is a priority—drive cautiously in the parking lot, use only assigned spaces, and do not park or wait in fire lanes.
